Masterfund — the spec

A client portal for solo business owners who need to find the right financial institution for their current stage and financial situation. Masterfund runs a diagnostic quiz, matches each user to eligible lenders with a plain-language rationale, and keeps the list actionable with a glossary, calculator, and exportable contact data. The goal is to remove the guesswork between "I need funding" and "I know exactly where to apply."

The core loop

  1. Diagnose — User completes the stage-and-financial-situation quiz (business age, revenue, credit profile, funding need, sector).
  2. Match — The algorithm returns a ranked lender list with a short rationale for each result explaining why the institution fits.
  3. Explore — User opens any lender card to read eligibility requirements, key terms, and funding ranges.
  4. Calculate — User runs loan or grant figures through the in-portal calculator to pressure-test affordability.
  5. Export — User downloads the matched lender contact list as a formatted spreadsheet ready to act on.
  6. Alert — When a lender launches a new program that fits the user's saved profile, the portal fires an email or SMS notification.

Deliberately later

  • Saved matches and side-by-side comparison — users need to build familiarity with individual lenders before comparison UI adds value; prioritise discovery first.
  • Application deadline tracker with reminders — calendar integration and reminder logic require booking/notification infrastructure best layered on once the match data is stable and trusted.
  • Peer reviews and funding outcome stories — community content needs a critical mass of users to be credible; recruit that mass with the core utility first.
