CrownSpace — the spec

A client portal for a physical studio where children and their parents access culturally grounded hair education. CrownSpace serves families — particularly those with textured, natural, or heritage hair — who want more than technique: they want their child to understand their hair as identity, history, and self-expression. Every session moves a child from "my hair is a problem" to "my hair is mine."

The core loop

  1. A parent creates a family account and registers their child, noting hair texture and any prior context.
  2. They book a guided parent-child hands-on styling session from available slots.
  3. At the studio, the child works through a ritual tied to their texture — technique, story, and meaning together.
  4. The child hears a cultural history segment at the storytelling corner during the session.
  5. At checkout, a customized take-home routine card is generated and saved to their portal profile.
  6. The family receives an invite to the next community celebration event and can RSVP directly from the portal.

v1 scope

Guided parent-child hands-on styling sessions
A bookable session type where parent and child participate together, led by a studio instructor. The portal shows available dates, confirms bookings, and holds the session record against the child's profile.

Cultural history and pride storytelling corner
A curated content section — short written pieces, prompts, and images — that instructors draw on during sessions and families can revisit via the portal afterward. Organized by theme: heritage, texture identity, resilience, self-expression.

Take-home routine cards customized per child
After each session, an instructor completes a simple form in the portal keyed to that child's texture and what was practiced. The portal generates a printable, saveable routine card attached to the child's record and accessible to the parent at any time.

Community celebration events and showcases
An events calendar inside the portal where the studio publishes upcoming showcases — moments where children's hair journeys are celebrated publicly. Parents RSVP through the portal; attendance history is stored on the family profile.

Deliberately later

  • Texture-specific workshop bookings by hair type — needs enough session volume and instructor bandwidth to justify segmentation; phase one fills the calendar first.
  • Product library: safe ingredients, texture-matched — valuable, but requires curation rigor and ongoing maintenance; better built once families trust the platform.
  • Instructor training in cultural hair care — a separate audience and product entirely; belongs in a distinct module when the studio is ready to scale its team.
  • Feedback loop: child agency in sessions — critical to the mission long-term; designing it well requires real session data and child input that v1 will generate.
